As an Oral Surgeon, Dr. Nock is often called upon to serve patients with more complex extraction cases. In many of these cases, surgery is best performed while the patients are under general anesthesia. With this option, patients are asleep the whole time and wake up only after the surgery is complete. Dr. Nock would welcome your questions about the various surgical options.

“I had an impacted wisdom tooth that desperately needed removed. I am terrified of dentists and put off having this procedure for over 10 years. When I got this last infection, I had had enough and finally made the appointment. Dr. Nock used general anesthesia which I had never had with a dentist before. He was extremely patient with me and efficient. He explained everything he was going to do, what to expect and took the time to answer my questions. The worst part of the entire ordeal was not being able to have coffee the morning of the appointment due to the anesthesia. I would go to Dr. Nock again in a minute!” ~ via Angie’s List

You Have Options

The team at Nock Oral Surgery wants to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during you time at our office. Most of the procedures we perform take just 45 minutes or less and you are home and resting comfortably that same day.

Dr. Nock will discuss with you what level of anesthesia is best for you and your needs. We offer several types of anesthesia, so you don’t feel pain during the surgery:

Local: Dr. Nock will numb your mouth with a shot of Novocaine in your gums. You may also breathe nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to relax or even doze during surgery. You should feel alert again shortly afterward.

IV sedation: Dr. Nock will numb your mouth and also give you medication through a vein in your arm to make you drowsy.

General: Many local dentists offer local, and even IV sedation, but only a qualified surgeon can provide general anesthesia. Dr. Nock is often called upon for more complex cases, and in many of these cases general anesthesia is the best option. With general anesthesia, you’ll either receive medication through a vein or breathe gas in through a mask. You’ll be asleep the whole time and wake up only after the surgery is complete.
